Third Female Member Joins AkzoNobel Crew

There are a lot of females in the crew of the AkzoNobel team that will be taking part in the 2017-18 Volvo Ocean Race that kick-starts on October 22.


The latest female crew member to join the AkzoNobel team is sailor Emily Nagel from Bermuda. She is the 11th member to join the Dutch team. The skipper of the team is Simeon Tienpont.

Nagel does not have the experience of sailing around the world and she was insured by solo skipper Ellen MacArthur. Nagel said that she had aspirations of sailing in the Volvo Ocean Race and her dream has now come true. She is happy to be part of the Dutch team and is looking forward to having a wonderful time with other crew members of the AkzoNobel team. She said that she was given a book that featured MacArthur during a Christmas. This was about her first sailing around the world. The book was very entertaining and this made Nagel dream about sailing around the world one day. Now, her dream has come true.

He appointed as a crew member of the Dutch team is at the back of her two months serious training and trialing with the team. She impressed one and all in the AkzoNobel team when she took part in the Volvo Ocean Race Leg Zero qualifying series. She showed good skills and looked better in offshore racing. This is why the Dutch team decided to include her as a crew member of the forthcoming Volvo Ocean Race.

Nagel said that she did not believe that she would be appointed as a crew member of the team so quickly. She was happy to grab the chance offered to her with both hands. She said that the task of trialing with such a team was a daunting task.
